“Are you free in America?” is an exhibition centered around our ideas of freedom. Through a series of 3 interactions, we invite the community to create a collective response.
Curated by Jason Biehl and Maps Glover
About Maps Glover:
Maps Glover is the first artist-in-residence of 2019 in the A Creative DC: Brookland workspace. He creates work inspired by human behavior and observation, and pervasive social issues. He visualizes how time affects behavior, and how observation of behavior alters perspective. He constructs portals in which the characters he creates exist and experience the world around them, often in ways that seem unnatural to the viewer. Maps has created and performed work at Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage, Smithsonian Arts & Industries Building, Transformer DC, and more.
About Jason Biehl:
Jason W. Biehl is a history teacher and D.C. native, who has been working directly with youth since 2001. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin, his recent experiences include teaching at Capital City Public Charter School, GED instruction at Latin American Youth Center, and anti-racism organizing for Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ DC). In 2017, he founded Change the Narrative, facilitating workshops on race, whiteness and equity for predominantly white students, parents and teachers in the DC area.
